We are musicians who observe\, support\, and hold space for the connection between dancers and musicians formed during a live dance/music event. One common thread in the music of NataDas at this point is Trey Crispin\, the curator and leader of these ensembles for live performance. He has been performing live ecstatic dances for 15 years. NataDas – Servant of Dance – is a group that creates a deep moving tapestry of sound that looks to the movements of dancers as our written music. In our opinion everyone gets farther when we do these things together and not alone. In this taster class\, you will get a glimpse into the depths of this form – contact improvisation. The class will be taught with a playful lense and will focus on building capacities to track and sense while working with a partner. Hana’s style of teaching is fun\, with a foundation around anatomy and physics as well as deep somatic presence. These classes are for all levels\, each class will build on each other but drop ins are welcome! \n\n\n\nHana is a dance and movement facilitator with a focus on somatics\, embodiment\, and trauma therapy. Hana’s background with movement began as a child\, with 7 years of Bharatnatyam\, a traditional South Indian temple dance. Hana’s upbringing in India was filled with yoga and meditation\, inspiring her to obtain her Yoga Teacher Certification at 19 (2013) and initiating her passion for embodiment. In 2016\, Hana began to explore somatic movement techniques\, such as Body Mind Centering\, Axis Syllabus\, Alexander Technique\, Feldenkreis and more\, as well as contact improvisation. Since then\, Hana has traveled the globe for several years of intensive study with world renown teachers such as Nita Little\, Ray Chung\, Kira Kirsch\, Frey Faust\, and many more. In the last two years Hana received her certification in integrative somatic trauma therapy and has been exploring the therapeutic benefits of embodiment and the arts. Then I started to play at some house parties\, ecstatic dances and festivals. \n\n\n\nHow do your sets at Beat Church differ from other sets you play around town?My sets at Beat Church are more bass heavy which I absolutely loveeeee! My typical sets include some bass\, but are more balanced with other genres and elements. I know that I can go harder and longer at Beat Church because that’s the type of culture that exists there. \n\n\n\nWhat do you hope the dancers experience when dancing to one of your Beat Church sets?I hope dancers experience an immersion in music and movement when they dance to one of my Beat Church sets with no restriction on how they move or how expressive they are. I want them to move freely and also more intensely. I want everyone to go feral and to also have an amazing time.
